Introduction about Poha Cutlet :

Poha Originated from Maharashtra (Called Kande pohey).Poha is made of processed flattened rice, roasted with chilies, onions, mustard and cumin seeds and curry leaves (called Kadi-patta).

Historically, a cutlet is a slice of meat or vegetable dipped in egg and then coated with bread crumbs and deep fried.

The word cutlet has originated from the French word Colette, and was first known to be used in the year 1682.

Poha cutlet is an easy breakfast recipe which is quick to make and yummy in taste.


The Ingredients List :
  • 2 Cups Poha
  • 3 boiled Potatoes
  • 1 teaspoon chaat masala powder
  • 1 inch ginger chopped
  • 2 green chili chopped
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoon all purpose flour (Maida)
  • 2 sprig coriander (Dhania) leaves , finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped or grated carrots
  • 1/4 cup steamed or boiled green peas
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onions
  • whole wheat bread crumbs , for coating
  • Oil for shallow frying
  • Salt to taste

How To Make Poha Cutlet with step by step :

  1. To begin making Vegetable Poha Cutlet Recipe take poha and rinse it once or twice.Then soak the poha in water just about covering them for 3 to 4 minutes.Then using a strainer, drain all the water from the poha. The poha should get softened well but there should be no water in them. So use a strainer to drain all the water.
  2. Take the boiled potatoes and mash them finely.
  3. Put mashed potatoes in a bowl and add soaked poha, add chopped or grated carrots, boiled green peas, chopped onions, chopped coriander leaves, salt to taste, black pepper powder, garam masala powder, chat masala powder, red chili powder, chopped ginger, chopped green chilly, coriander leaves and lastly add lemon juice. Mix all the ingredients until well combined.
  4. Take a generous portion of the mixture and shape each into a cutlet or give the desired
    shape of your choice. Prepare rest of the cutlets in the same way.
  5. Put all-purpose flour/maida in a bowl and make a thin paste with little water. Add salt
    and black pepper; mix it well till no there are no lumps in the mixture.
  6. Dip each vegetable poha cutlet one by one in the flour paste and then coat with bread
    crumbs. Prepare the rest of the cutlets in the same way.
  7. Take a non-stick pan and add a little oil for shallow frying. Let the oil get hot on medium
    heat. Now add prepared vegetable poha cutlets and shallow fry until golden brown on
    both the sides and crisp.
  8. Your Vegetable Poha Cutlet is ready, remove them on an absorbent paper and then
    transfer them to a serving plate.
  9. Serve Vegetable Poha Cutlet with tomato sauce.
